Before we can grow in any area of our life, we have to first understand ourselves better. Most of us don’t really know what makes us (or others) tick. We are not sure why we act, think and behave the way we do.
There are some factors in the background of our lives that influence and drive our behaviours without us being aware of what is going on. These factors operate at the level of our subconscious or unconscious minds, influencing how we show up, the way we feel and what decisions we make in our lives.
By using the Enneagram, we can become more aware of these factors, how they are operating in our lives and then make conscious choices to dissociate with the parts that limit us.
The Enneagram teaches that there are 9 different personality types in the world, one of which we naturally gravitate toward and adopted in childhood to cope and feel safe in this unpredictable world. Each type or number has a distinct way of seeing the world and an underlying motivation that influences how that type thinks, feels and behaves.
You are one of the types.
You live with one of the types.
You work with one of the types.
You will gain more awareness about yourself and others through the lens of the Enneagram. This is self-awareness and other-people awareness. What would be different for you if had better insight about yourself and others around you? Would you like to communicate better with others? Would you like to influence others at work?
This self-knowledge and self-understanding give us more information about our filters, core psychological issues, interpersonal strengths and weaknesses. The Enneagram offers us a structure to highlight and address these areas that hold us back.
